The 'Microsoft Support' Popup Is Not Your Antivirus Failing

Quick take
Fake support scams use browser lock pages and caller-ID theater. Close the browser from Task Manager, do not call the number, do not let anyone remote-in. Norton can block some known scare pages — it cannot hang up the phone for you. GUIDEORA is not Microsoft.
Your PC is not talking to Redmond
The page is a website. The voice is a commission shop. A real infection usually does not introduce itself with a toll-free number and a countdown.
Paying them 'to refund you later' is how the second theft happens. Close the browser process. Then you can scan.
From the record
A siren in a browser tab is an ad. A remote-control tool is the burglary.
GUIDEORA rule for fake support
The hang-up sequence
Do not click Allow. Task Manager, end browser. Reopen and ignore the same tab restore. If someone is already in AnyDesk or Quick Assist, disconnect the network and assume passwords are gone.

Helps the web
- Call your bank only on the number on the card, never the popup.
- A 'refund' via gift cards is always a theft.
- Safe-browsing in the browser catches a lot of this before the suite does.
- Family members get hit hardest. Practice the hang-up with them.
Norton as web-blocker, not a helpline
Norton currently includes browser/web protection in many suites. That can stop some scare domains. It will not impersonate Microsoft support, and neither will we.
If Norton's own UI looks like a red siren, that is still not a phone number in a random tab. Learn the difference.
Pros
- +Hanging up is free and correct
- +Web protection can shrink the scare pages
- +A real scan can wait until the voice is gone
Cons
- −New domains appear daily
- −Seniors get crushed by authority theater
- −A suite cannot unsay a credit-card number
Close the tab. Never the wallet.
Popups with phone numbers are ads. Norton is the web-protection example. GUIDEORA is not on the line.
Editor take
Hang up, then scan
Fake support is social engineering. Norton may block some pages. Never remote-in. Confirm live.
