Quick take

New-account mail is a physical channel. Call the issuer, freeze bureaus, use USPS informed delivery if it helps you notice. Aura is the household alert example this site uses. It cannot sit on your porch. IdentityTheft.gov if you are in the U.S. and accounts opened.

Not every dump is digital

Pre-approved offers, new cards, checks, and change-of-address confirmations still travel on paper. A thief with a mailbox key is an old story. A monitoring ping that arrives after the card is charged is a diary, not a lock.

Change-of-address fraud is a cousin: they reroute your mail, then harvest the cards. USPS has processes. We are not the Postal Inspection Service.

From the record

If the card never should have been printed, the issuer and the freeze are the tools. The dashboard is how you hear the next one.

GUIDEORA rule for mail theft

Do the issuer, then the bureaus

Report the card. Dispute charges. Freeze Equifax, Experian, TransUnion. Consider a fraud alert. File IdentityTheft.gov. A locked mailbox and Informed Delivery are analog MFA.

Not an app

  • Do not ignore a 'welcome to your new card' for a bank you never met.
  • A freeze stops many new accounts; it does not recall a card already issued.
  • Hold mail at the post office when you travel.
  • Shred offers if you still get paper — yes, still.

Alerts as a second radar

Aura currently watches new-account and inquiry style events on plans as they document them. That can nag you when the next application hits a bureau. It will not catch the envelope on the steps. We mention Aura as the household bundle this site already uses.

Confirm which alerts are on your SKU. Checkout wins.

Pros

  • +Issuer plus freeze is the real containment
  • +Informed Delivery is free-ish awareness
  • +Inquiry alerts can catch the next try

Cons

  • −Apps do not replace a lock
  • −A card already issued is a race
  • −Paper still exists

Lock the box, freeze the file

Treat stolen mail as identity work, not a tech-support ticket. Aura is the alert example after you called the bank. GUIDEORA does not deliver mail.

Analog, then bureau

Issuer, freeze, postal tools. Aura is the household radar this site mentions next. Confirm live. IdentityTheft.gov if accounts opened.
