The Memories Tab Is Not a Backup

Feelings are not a checksum

The tab makes you cry on purpose. That is engagement. A stolen phone does not care that you watched 2019 on a plane.

Consumer photo clouds also change compression and face grouping. None of that is a restore drill.

From the record

If you have not restored a folder onto an empty laptop, you have a slideshow vendor.

GUIDEORA rule for memories vs backup

What a backup actually requires

Originals. A second place. A test. Optional encryption if you do not want the vendor browsing faces. Versioning if you overwrite.

• Two consumer photo accounts that both optimize is two thumbnail piles.
• A hard drive in a closet is still a backup if you update it.
• E2EE means the vendor cannot generate memories. That is a trade.
• Work photos do not belong in the family memories cloud.

Proton Drive as originals you hold

Proton Drive currently is files, not a memories engine. That is why it shows up in this comparison: you put folders there on purpose and you can pull them back. It will not auto-generate a recap video. Confirm desktop sync if you want that habit.

Photo-specific features are not Drive's pitch. If you need memories, that is another product — just do not confuse it with backup.

Cry at the tab. Restore from the folder.

Memories are a feature. Backup is a drill. Proton Drive is the originals example. GUIDEORA does not auto-upload your camera roll.
